When I was a child, I watched Angelina Jolie in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and thought to myself, "How can a woman be this cool?"

In astrology, the Moon and Venus are the main archetypes of femininity. By observing the Moon and Venus in a woman's natal chart, we can gain insight into her distinct facets as a "nurturer" and a "lover."

Jolie’s Venus is prominently placed, tightly conjunct her Ascendant. However, the "Jolie Strike" spearheaded by her Moon is even more fierce. With her Ascendant at 28 degrees Cancer, her chart ruler is the Moon. This Moon forms a tight conjunction with Mars, Jupiter, and the Midheaven (MC), while loosely conjunct with Chiron. The pack resides in Aries in the 9th, squares Saturn in Cancer in the 12th House.

Such a lunar configuration manifests a nurturer who is fiercely combative, emotionally intense, and defiant of authority. The Moon, traditionally a deeply private luminary, becomes her most publicly recognized image through the conjunction with the Midheaven.

The storyline of Tomb Raider establishes Lara Croft as someone who lost her parents at a young age and grew up to become an archaeologist, embarking on dangerous adventures. As she travels the world, she constantly discovers traces of her parents. Relying on these precious fragments of their shared past, Lara gradually reconciles with herself.

This setup shares a striking parallel with Jolie’s real life. In the 2001 film, Jolie actually starred alongside her biological father, who played Lara’s father.

Her parents divorced when she was just one year old, leaving Jolie and her brother to be raised by their mother, who was also an actress. In contrast to her father’s elusive presence, her mother was always by her side. It was those moments watching television with her mother that sparked Jolie's desire to act.

During her teenage years, Jolie suffered from depression and resorted to self-harm, cutting herself with knives. She once stated that the sharp pain offered her a sense of ritualistic release. She relied on self-harm as a coping mechanism for comfort until she was 24.

At age 26, Jolie adopted her first child. Recalling that pivotal moment, she said, "I knew at that instant that I would never harm myself again."

Now 49 years old, Jolie is a mother of six children, three of whom were adopted from different countries. Meanwhile, she actively champions the protection of women and children within various international organizations, a vivid manifestation of her 9th House stage.

Jolie’s mother passed away from breast cancer when Jolie was 32. Knowing that she herself carried a high genetic risk for the disease, Jolie underwent a preventative double mastectomy five years later. Her personal essay perfectly captured the essence of the Moon-Chiron conjunction: "I do not feel any less of a woman. I feel empowered that I made a strong choice that in no way diminishes my femininity."

Following her mother’s passing, Jolie began to repair her strained relationship with her father. One cannot help but wonder: could this be her 12th House Saturn finally coming to light?
